Guy Agnew: News

Started next project - January 19, 2017

Hi, already working on the next project and just completed the first song. Have 2 others near completion, but had a little voice issue this summer. Improving and should get back on track. What is on track. Typically 2 years from start to finish. Wish me luck.

Also on a sad note. My Long time guitar teacher John Garcia and well know blues man passed away last October. We all miss him very much. Search for him on YouTube.

Cheers, and stay tuned.

New Release 2016 - June 19, 2016

Please to announce the release of my latest CD: Madness & Metaphors (6016). For this project I was fortunate to be supported by long-time producer and musical wizard, Terry Carleton (Bones and Knives Studio), along with cameos by Jeff Leeds, Henrik Martin, and Brian Shimada. Cover art by Jan Rice. Hope you have a chance to listen to it. Very much appreciated.
The following is a short description.

"Madness & Metaphors", the sixth album release from Guy Agnew, continues thematically from his previous effort on "Promises and Glue" (2014). Twelve songs are presented as musical metaphors across the broad spectrum of human emotion. "What I Want" is a no-nonsense rock plea that gets to the heart of true desire. The angelic "Vision of Peace" brings reassurance and serenity. While there is no time for regret in "End of Days", you can't hurry love "Under the Sun" because finding the "Answer to My Dreams" is worth waiting for.

Project update - February 9, 2016

Hi everyone,

Been a little quite, but making progress on my current project.

Currently finishing up the last song (13 I believe)for the next CD and just beginning the packaging and design process for the cover and booklet. I have once again decided to use original art for the cover (artist to be named shortly), although not yet sure of the theme or CD title. Once recording and mixing are complete, I will order the songs and send off to be mastered. This phase of production can take up to 2-3 months. I'll provide more frequent updates.

New Music Facebook page - July 1, 2014

You can now follow me on my new music facebook page.

Promises and Glue: Released - June 15, 2014

My 5th album, Promises and Glue, has just been released on CDBaby. Release for digital distribution and streaming sites may take a little longer. The CD include 11 new and original songs along with booklet containing lyrics. For this project I decided to do the artwork myself, for better or worse. Please feel free to comment on both the songs and the artwork.

Here is a short review of the album.

“An eclectic mix of eleven tracks exploring the different facets of the human experience. Held together by smart songwriting and well-crafted arrangements, this album promises to hit the mark.”

Last song in progress - January 8, 2014

Happy New Year to all and trust it will be a peaceful one.

Just started recording the last song for this project. I would like the new album to be released in late spring at the latest and as with the others, will be available on CD Baby and most downloads sites. It’s taken a little longer than I would have liked, but it’s ready when it’s ready.

In the progress of putting a band together for local gigs. Current plans are for a mixture of originals and covers. Will keep you posted on this.

Just published my Facebook page (Guy Agnew). A little late in coming, but here none the less. I will continue to enhance the page with music related stuff.
Back to work.

Project Update - April 26, 2013

Completed 6 songs and finishing up number 7 for the next album/ CD. All is pretty much going well and getting an opportunity to use new instruments in my collection.

If you did not know, at the heart of my music is to use "real" and unusual instruments (new and vintage)for recording. I try to limit the "software" effects as much as possible. However, every now and then you need to do something wacky.

Just added a few new guitars to my arsenal: reissue Eko 295 and 1960s Eko 500 v4. maybe I should add a guitar page.

Project Update - February 6, 2013

Hope you enjoyed a safe and peaceful holiday.
From a song perspective, nearing the halfway point for the next album. Of course this means virtually nothing when predicting a completion date. The new project has started out with a little more acoustic foundation, but that should not be used to predict the future. Too early to say.

For the guitar enthusiasts, I added a few new vintage guitars to my studio collection. One is a Welson 1960ish hollow body electric made in Italy with 3 PUs. Maybe I should add pictures?

Until next update,

Back in the studio - September 22, 2012

No time off between projects. I'm back in the studio working on the next album. I currently have 2 songs completed and starting a third. Seems I have a lot of material. Also driving this process is that my house was partially flooded by a plumbing failure while I was traveling last June. This put my studio out of action and I'm trying to not lose too much time. Hopefully, my studio will be back up and running by the end of September. Good news. None of my equipment or instruments were damaged.

All About Life released - July 31, 2012

"All About Life" is now available from CDbaby and most digital distribution sites. Here is a quick review.....Enjoy.

On his fourth album release, Guy continues on down the road with 13 original songs inspired by his observations of an ever-changing world. Working again with veteran producer, Terry Carleton, we see continued growth in the composition and songwriting, not only in its musicality but also with the variety of instruments employed. Farfisa piano-organ accents and sitar riffing on “Into My Mind”, Hammond B3 solos and comping on “Not My World”, and beautiful slide guitar passages on “Stay Calm (Take It Easy)” are just a few of many examples that present listeners with a more sophisticated sonic palette that is atypical of any Billboard chart offering manufactured and broadcasted by corporate-controlled media.

This project also presents the contributions of several session talents, both local and from afar. A particular treat is the understated Burney Greco, whose Gilmour-esque guitar work on “Play On” is the perfect complement to this Floydian-inspired piece.

Overall, “All About Life” is a welcome addition to anyone’s digital playlist or physical album collection and a positive vote in support of local independent musicians and songwriters.

New CD Release - July 12, 2012

Well it's seems like a long time and my new CD, "All About Life" will be availble in early August. A collection of 13 songs once again produced by Terry Carleton (On Down the Road fame). It's a nice mix with a little retro flare. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think.

Update - September 8, 2011

Well, 8 songs complete on the next album. Taking a little time now to prepare for the Debbi Waterstone Wildlife Foundation fundrasier September 17th in San Jose CA.

Sponsors for our 2011 event include: San Jose School of the Blues, Poor House Bistro and Thomas Fogarty Winery. Performing: the John Garcia Band featuring Wally Schnalle on drums, Steve Smith on bass and of course John Garcia himself on guitar. If you like blues, I suggest you check John out. Also performing are special guests: Sammy Varela and JC Smith. Check out these monster blues players as well.

For more information on the foundation:

I also have assembled a band to play at this years foundation which includes my producer Terry Carleton on drums. We plan to play 4 of my songs (1 never recored, 2 in the can for the next album one from "On Down the Road") and two covers. One cover is the "sleepy" John Estes "floating brige". Greg Alman covers this nicely on his "low country blues" release. Great CD.

I'm looking forward to the event and getting back into the studio to finish up my project in time for the holidays.

Stay calm...

Making good progress - April 29, 2011

Hello to everyone. Making good progress on the next album. We have 6 songs complete and 2 more ready to go. I’m pushing hard to cut the album creation time down to one year, even that still seems like a long time. Not every hour of the day is in the studio and much work goes into just beginning the recording process.

I have been very fortunate to have two guest artist contribute to our efforts. Dale Ockerman, local in Santa Cruz (keyboards) and Dave Ristrum, TN (paddle steel and baritone guitar). As we continue on, I’m sure we will have more guest artists.

Looking forward to the summer.

All the best,

Project 4 update - January 1, 2011

Back from the holidays and continuing work on album number 4. I have completed 2 songs, have 3 more ready to go and one "troubled child" that I continue to struggle with. Tomorrow I'll be in the studio working on the vocals and melody for the troubled child.

I trust all of you had a very peacefull holiday season and best wishes for the new year.

Very best,

Back in the studio - October 6, 2010

Hello again.

Please to announce that I’m back in the studio to begin work on the next project. Starting a little slow, but should pick up once back into the groove. I have a list of new songs that I continue to work on and I believe to be promising. It is not clear at this point what and if there will be a specific theme to the album. This sometimes just presents itself one day. As I do progress, I'll write a short note upon completion of each new song along with a progress report.

Thanks for visiting.

Album #3: Released - July 23, 2010

2008 was a difficult year, as I lost someone very dear to me to cancer. We all know someone who has had to fight this battle and how difficult it is. Life has a finality about it that leaves us no option, but to move forward.

I have completed my latest project CD(3) and happy to announce that the CD is now available. The project took much longer than I anticipated, but such is life.

I would like to thank Terry Carleton for his contribution to the project as producer and guide.

Love to all, Guy
